Better Rules Hack is a a small, fun event exploring the notion of legislation as code.
Get involved, learn and build some digital technology for your sector, industry or community by using 'digital rules’, turning policies and paper based procedures into code - prizes to be won!
+ Saturday 28th July 2018 9:00AM - 9:00PM & Sunday 29 July 2018 — 9:00AM - 4:00PM +
This hands-on hackathon is a chance to explore the ideas and practice of making government legislation into machine consumable 'digital rules' that can be reused and integrated across domains and in different applications for the benefit of a range of businesses, individuals and communities.
The aim is to understand the feasibility of providing government hosted machine consumable legislation as part of Government as a Platform.
It is an opportunity for all to understand;
- how well aligned existing digital standards, languages, and toolsets are for across domain integration
- what the options are for how machine consumable legislation can be presented as authoritative open data
- the value of machine consumable legislation to entrepreneurs, business owners, industry, communities, not for profits and local government.
Hackathon participants working in teams will build a working demonstrator that benefits their industry, sector or community using digital rules from more than one source, for example, legislation from multiple agencies, or trade agreements, or any other form of rules from more than one source.
Teams will showcase the value of digital rules to them, how they made the digital rules consumable by everyone, and share their lessons learnt at the end of the event.
This event is jointly run with Legal Hackers NZ and Venture Centre (and was first run in Wellington during Techweek 2018.)
